Planning your aquarium
The library starting point is 10+ US gallons. Plan for the approximate 3.5-inch adult size and the species' normal activity, not just its current shop size.
The minimum group count is not a compatibility recommendation; assess temperament, sex, territory, and tankmates.
Mixed-species aquariums may need substantially more space. Tank length, adult behavior, filtration, and hiding spaces all matter.
Tank setup and behavior
- Break up sightlines with plants or hardscape to create distinct territories.
Provide peaceful tankmates, a planted retreat and easy access to the surface.
Males can be territorial.
Food and feeding
Food options: Floating pellets, Tropical flakes, Frozen brine shrimp.
Use appropriately sized, complete staple foods and rotate suitable foods for variety. Feed modest portions and remove uneaten food.
Additional care caution
Territorial behavior can increase between males and around nesting areas.
