Planning your aquarium
The library starting point is 10+ US gallons. Plan for the approximate 2.5-inch adult size and the species' normal activity, not just its current shop size.
The library suggests a group of at least 3. Count every individual when estimating stocking and swimming room.
Mixed-species aquariums may need substantially more space. Tank length, adult behavior, filtration, and hiding spaces all matter.
Tank setup and behavior
- Check that the source water supplies suitable, stable mineral content.
Provide open swimming room alongside planted retreats. Guppies generally do better in stable mineral-rich water.

Food and feeding
Food options: Quality tropical flakes, Micro pellets, Frozen brine shrimp.
Use varied omnivore foods, including some algae- or plant-based ingredients.
Use appropriately sized, complete staple foods and rotate suitable foods for variety. Feed modest portions and remove uneaten food.
Additional care caution
Mixed-sex groups can breed rapidly. Count juveniles when assessing how many fish the tank can support.
