Planning your aquarium
The library starting point is 75+ US gallons. Plan for the approximate 12-inch adult size and the species' normal activity, not just its current shop size.
The minimum group count is not a compatibility recommendation; assess temperament, sex, territory, and tankmates.
Mixed-species aquariums may need substantially more space. Tank length, adult behavior, filtration, and hiding spaces all matter.
Tank setup and behavior
- Maintain stable, species-appropriate water and provide a mix of cover and swimming room.
Provide an exceptionally large, well-filtered aquarium or an appropriately designed pond.

Food and feeding
Food options: Sinking goldfish pellets, Gel food, Blanched vegetables.
Use appropriately sized, complete staple foods and rotate suitable foods for variety. Feed modest portions and remove uneaten food.
Additional care caution
Do not use fancy-goldfish tank-size rules for large, fast-swimming single-tail varieties.
