Planning your aquarium
The library starting point is 5+ US gallons. Check adult size, grazing surface, oxygenation, and food supply.
Stable water and adequate dissolved minerals help protect shell growth. Do not assume that every snail eats the same foods or that an aquarium has enough natural algae.

Check tankmates for snail-eating behavior, and keep medication ingredients in mind. Some snails reproduce readily, while others require specialized breeding conditions.
Food and feeding
Food options: Algae wafers, Natural algae, Blanched vegetables.
Check for adequate natural algae and supplement when grazing surfaces become bare.
Offer supplemental foods when the tank does not provide enough natural grazing. Remove uneaten food before it fouls the water.
Additional care caution
Egg capsules may be laid in freshwater, but most aquarium nerites do not complete reproduction there.
